Google Base is a new database that Google has created to allow website owners to upload databases straight to Google so they can be searchable by Google users. The database which is still in beta is at http://base.google.com.
You can upload databases such as product catalogs, recipes, articles, reviews, a list of cars for sale, course list, jobs, products, wanted ads, and anything you would include in a database. In fact, there appears to be some functionality that overlaps with Froogle since you can upload databases of products you sell.
The database can include a picture and a link to your website. It lets you specify keywords that searches can use to find your data. Data submitted to Google Base may be indexed in the main search engine and Froogle, as well. However, you don’t need a website. Google will host your data for you, if you don’t have one. For maximum exposure though, you should have a website.
If you have a lot of things to upload to Google Base, you can post a bulk list in tab-delimited or XML format.
Here are 10 ways to use Google Base:
1. Post your catalog of eBooks you have created or that you have resale rights to.
2. Post your catalog of software you have created or that you have resale rights to.
3. Add your database of video products you sell or give away.
4. Add your database of audio products you sell or give away.
5. Add a database of articles you have written.
6. Add your database of all digital products you sell.
7. Post a database of reviews you have done.
8. Add a database of recipes you have collected. This can be especially profitable if you have a recipe-based website since your database listings can have links to your website.
9. Upload your database of products you sell from your Ebay store.
10. Upload your database of pictures of products you sell from your offline business.
It doesn’t have to be just about driving traffic to you website. An increasing number of people look for information online before they visit an offline store. Many offline businesses don’t get this. If your competitors are one of the many offline businesses that are missing the internet boat, that’s all the reason you need to get information about your business on Google.
Any time you can post data or links to your site onto a high traffic site such as Google, it will boost traffic to your website. Since this is a new service still in beta testing, that’s all the more reason to jump the gun ahead of your competitors, who may not even know about this yet. If you choose your keywords carefully, the end result can only be a rush of traffic to your website.
